Retrofit for Latin American river boats

Atria Logistics UABL, a major South American push boat operator, is on its way to completing a fleet-wide retrofit to its tailshaft and rudder bearings.

In 2014, the Argentinian owner, which operates a fleet of workboats on the Paraná River, installed Thordon’s River Tough tailshaft bearings to its first push boat, the 41 m long “Concepcion”.

In 2020, six more vessels in the company’s 26-strong fleet were converted. Now, a fleet-wide retrofit to Thordon’s water lubricated tailshaft and rudder bearings has been completed.

Taking advantage of the dry season and the lower river traffic, Atria drydocked “Cavalier IV”, “Cavalier X”, “Cavalier XII”, “Titan”, “Pluton” and “San Martin” the Atria-owned Pueblo Esther Shipyard, in Santa Fe, Argentina. Now the bearings don’t have to be greased anymore, operation are smooth and vibrations and frictions are reduced. (cd)
