Record throughput in Viennese terminal
The Wien Cont container terminal, a subsidiary of the port of Vienna located in Freudenau, a suburb of the Austrian capital, transhipped the one-millionth teu for rail operator Roland in August this year. Roland is therefore the intermodal terminal's biggest operator for maritime hinterland traffic.
The two companies are also expecting demand for CO2 reduced transport services to grow. In order to be prepared for the increased traffic, Roland and Wien Cont are continuing to expand their maritime services to and from Hamburg and Bremerhaven.
Roland organises daily departures of container services between the port and the hinterland, operating its own truck fleet and customs division. (ben)
