Record funding for rail projects

The USA has invested a record amount of USD 1.4 billion into 70 rail improvement projects of which USD 720 million will support 47 short line railroad projects in 36 states.

One of the grants concerns the Palouse River & Coulee City Railroad in Washington state to upgrade the track to allow that rail line to handle modern 125.5 t railcars.

A project in Kentucky will receive a grant to improve 450 km of track along the Paducah and Louisville Railway and Tennessee will be supported to upgrade about 42 bridges on ten different short-line railroads. Six short line projects will upgrade or purchase 24 locomotives at the Tier 3, Tier 4 or zero emission levels. (ben)
