Quicker and greener transports to Turkey
The logistics provider Hellmann and Talay, a Turkey-based intermodal specialist, have formed a new partnership, in which Talay carries goods from the Turkish ports by ro-ro ships to Trieste in Italy. Here, the cargo is reloaded onto block trains and transported to hubs in Austria and Germany.
As part of the cooperation, Hellmann has set up two container depots at its logistics centres in Osnabrück and Augsburg (both in Germany), where the goods will be consolidated before continuing their journeys by truck.
The solution reduces transit times between Turkey and the major European cities to twelve days and saves 2,000 t of CO₂ emissions annually, according to the two partners. (ben)
