Prioritising innovation over cyber security
DNV’s latest report reveals a high tolerance for cyber risk in the maritime industry, with 61% of professionals willing to accept greater cyber vulnerabilities if it supports digital innovation. This figure is notably higher than in other critical sectors such as energy and healthcare.
As connectivity increases with advanced technologies like IoT, AI, and high-bandwidth communications, 71% of respondents recognise cyber attacks as a top risk. However, despite growing confidence in managing cyber risks - 83% report strong security postures - only half believe their organisations have full visibility into supply chain vulnerabilities, and 68% see IT security as stronger than OT security.
Maritime professionals express increased concerns over cyber threats, especially ransomware, and call for collaboration, with 95% urging greater cybersecurity cooperation in critical infrastructure industries.
DNV’s report outlines key challenges: enhancing OT resilience, improving detection and response, establishing clear roles, and securing complex supply chains. (pb)
