Port de Guadeloupe enhances terminal

On 29 January, the Grand Port Maritime de la Guadeloupe (GPMG) welcomed a new generation gantry crane for the Jarry/Baie-Mahault container terminal. At around 07.00, the massive 1,280 t, 68 m high hoisting equipment, stowed on the vessel "Happy Star", arrived at the port of Jarry.

The new H4 gantry, costing GPMG EUR 10. 2 million, will replace the P1 and P2 gantry cranes that were dismantled for age reasons in 2014.

Built by Paceco Spain & Kalmar, the new crane left the port of Bilbao (Spain) last week and will be used on Jarry container terminal's quays 12, 13 and 14. The crane installation represents another step forward in the port's strategic masterplan. (kd)
