ÖBB reports stable 2024 results


ÖBB maintained stable operations in 2024, achieving earnings before taxes (ebt) of EUR 113.6 million, despite economic challenges and flood damage.

 

Freight logistics faced pressure, with the Rail Cargo Group (RCG) reporting an ebt loss of EUR 24.5 million, due among other factors to lower demand and increased energy costs. Nevertheless, transport volumes grew by 1.7% to 79.9 million t.

 

Infrastructure milestones included the structural completion of the Koralm Railway and the Semmering base tunnel breakthrough. Train-kilometre performance rose by 4.2% to 172.8 million tkm, reflecting increased network usage. Staff numbers grew by 5.4% to 47,484. Preparations for the opening of the Koralm Railway, a critical link in the Baltic–Adriatic freight corridor, are on track for December 2025. (js)
