New train link between Bettembourg and Kiel
CFL multimodal, Stena Line and LKW Walter have jointly launched a new direct intermodal service. The train links the Bettembourg-Dudelange terminal (Luxembourg) with the Schwedenkai in the port of Kiel in Germany, where there is a direct connection to ferry services to Gothenburg in Sweden.
To begin with, the new offer will provide three round trips per week and will be operated with a train measuring 710 m and comprising 21 wagons for trailers and containers. With this train, up to 10,000 trailers and containers could be transferred from the roads to the more eco-friendly railways.
The port of Kiel expects the new service to achieve a transport performance of 8,000 load units in its first year of operation. (ben)
