New hub to save a 4,000 km sea journey
The construction of the Kombi-Terminal Horb (KTH) began with the groundbreaking ceremony held last week. The aim of the project is to shift more freight transport from road to rail.
With the new logistics route, a long sea journey around half of Europe and tonnes of CO2 can be saved. Around 4,000 km per container ship will be avoided, which means that delivery times will be reduced by up to eight days.
The Horber loading station is located in the middle of the rail connection between the German northern ports and the seaport on Italy’s Adriatic coast. Construction of the terminal is to be completed by the end of this year. There are also plans to build a Horb Intermodal Service Centre close to the KTH in the coming years.
