More traffic between Lübeck and Liepāja
More connections have been added to the Baltic Sea route between Latvia and Germany. Swedish shipping company Stena Line recently began to deploy the "Stena Vinga" on its service between Lübeck and Liepāja in Latvia, thus strengthening its network.
The ro-pax ship complements the ships "Urd" and "Stena Gothica" at LHG's Skandinavienkai terminal. The shipping company thus creates more turnarounds and is thus able to offer seven departures per week and direction; previously there were five.
In addition to 1,500 lane metres, the "Vinga" can also accommodate 400 passengers, mainly truck drivers. The higher capacity is in response to increasing traffic volumes between Germany and the Baltic States as well as Russia.
Car transports also benefit from this new offer: up to 500 vehicles per week destined for the Baltic States are announced to arrive at the Skandinavienkain April and May.
LHG has maintained a close cooperation with the port of Liepāja for years. Janis Lapins, head of the Liepāja Special Economic Zone (LSEZ): "In the first quarter, cargo volumes including new vehicle transports between Liepāja and Lübeck increased by more than 40%." (cd)
