More sustainability at Port of Cork

In Ireland, electricity provider Energia is to supply the Port of Cork Company with 100% renewable energy. The green electricity will power a number of facilities at Cork City Quays, Tivoli Container Terminal, Ringaskiddy's deepwater and ro-ro berths, Cobh's deepwater quay and Cork Container Terminal.

The Port of Cork is the second largest port in Ireland. The agreement with Energia was signed as part of a commitment to lead the wider port community in minimising environmental impacts.

Other actions that have helped to reduce the port’s GHG emissions include the ISO 50001 standard in 2019 which made Cork the country's first port to achieve this certification for the energy management system.

In partnership with Ireland's sustainable energy authority (SEAI), the Port of Cork implemented an energy action plan which contributed to ‘the national energy efficiency action plan 2009-2020’, reaching a 33% reduction in energy use over the period. (cd)
