More handling capacity on the Red Sea
In Jeddah, the Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has taken delivery of two new ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, and ten hybrid-rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) manufactured by ZPMC in Shanghai.
These are further steps in the planned expansion of Jeddah Port's strategy to double annual container throughput capacity to 5.2 million teu by 2023.
RSGT CEO Jens Floe sees further possibilities for terminal operations. Currently, RSGT is the only terminal at the Port of Jeddah capable of accommodating the ULCS class's mega-ships.
All in all, plans are underway for a total investment of USD 1.7 billion to ultimately increasing annual container throughput capacity to 8.8 million teu in Jeddah. (cd)
