Milestone for Gateway Basel Nord
The Swiss competition commission WEKO raises no objections against the joint project proposed by SBB, Hupac and Rethmann. The major terminal Gateway Basel Nord (GBN) may have a negative effect on some of the competitors, but it can also improve market conditions for railfreight, the WEKO says.
With the GBN, SBB, Hupac and Rethmann intend to create a hub for imports & exports and cargo transit services across the Alps. When completed, the GBN will offer cargo handling services for road haulage, railfreight and inland shipping. The partners now have the green light to continue their project. (ben)
