Man enters battery era

Man Truck & Bus ceremonially opened its battery production facility in Nuremberg recently, in the presence of Bavarian prime minister Markus Söder.

The company announced an expanded EUR 250 million investment plan for large-scale battery production, up from a previously planned expenditure of EUR 100 million.

The total commitment for the site reaches nearly EUR 500 million, when investment in diesel-engine production is also taken into account. The plant will manufacture battery packs and modules for Man’s e-trucks and electric buses. The corporation’s upgraded facility will manufacture up to 100,000 battery units annually.

Man CEO Alexander Vlaskamp concluded that “with the start of battery production, the company that invented the diesel engine is entering a new era.” (js)
