Maersk to transport wind turbine parts
Vestas, a renewable energy company based in Denmark, has contracted Maersk to transport powertrains for its largest ever wind turbine V236. Using special equipment, the heavy cargo will be taken from the assembly site in Lommel, Belgium via Antwerp to the port of Lindø in Denmark.
There, the 260 t heart-piece of the 15 MW turbine will be installed in the nacelle at Vestas’ factory. At a later date, the V236 powertrains will be shipped to a new hub in Poland.
“The transport requires complex logistics capabilities and experience, which makes us even more proud to be selected for this task,” says Claus Svane Schmidt, global head of Maersk Project Logistics. (mk)
