Kazakhstan and Tajikistan plan railfreight hub


Kedentransservice, a subsidiary of the Kazakh railway KTZ, has dispatched a first train from Kostanay, Kazakhstan, with agricultural products from Kazakhstan to Tajikistan.

 

The train is delivering more than 3,000 t of flour and oilseeds and 2,000 t of consumer goods. Freight transport by rail between the two countries is steadily increasing. Around 2.7 million t of goods were shipped between January and July 2023 - 17% more than in the same period last year.

 

In response to this upward trend, the railways of the two countries are planning to establish a JV with the aim of creating a distribution centre in Khatlon (Tajikistan) to handle the increase throiughput. The hub will consolidate freight from the southern regions of Tajikistan and exports from Kazakhstan. (ben)
