Joining forces for intermodal services
The German digital road freight forwarder Sennder and the Italian logistician Mercitalia have joined forces with Poste Italiane to develop proprietary technology for sustainable intermodal transport and create and introduce combined rail/road solutions in Europe.
Under the partnership, Sennder will handle the first and last mile of intermodal transports, using BEVs and hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
Each year, Mercitalia and Sennder collectively facilitate the transport of over 53 million t of goods. This includes 41 million t carried by 100,000 trains operated by Mercitalia and 12 million t transported in 1 million truckloads on Sennder’s extensive road network. (ben)
