Improving aerodynamics to save fuel
As part of a pilot, Hegelmann is having semi trailers equipped with components of a special aero package from Betterflow. The components are attached to the underbody of the trailer and reduce the truck’s air resistance.
Improving the aerodynamics can save up to 1.8 litres of fuel per 100 km. With an average mileage of 120,000 km per year, this results in a saving of over 2,000 litres per year for each refurbished vehicle.
Hegelmann is initially trying out the systems on five refrigerated trailers. If the "field test" is successful, further vehicles are to be fitted out with this new technology. The cost of this new equipment is estimated at around EUR 10,000 per trailer. (ben)
