Icebreaker project to drive expansion in shipyard
Davie and Pearlson & Pearlson have partnered to modernise Davie’s shipyard in Lévis, Québec, supporting the construction of seven heavy icebreakers and two hybrid ferries under Canada’s national shipbuilding strategy (NSS). The upgrade includes six new buildings, five refurbished structures, enhanced waterfront infrastructure, and advanced shipbuilding technology.
Backed by USD 519 million from the Québec government as part of a USD 840 million expansion plan, the project will create hundreds of jobs and increase Davie’s workforce to 1,800, the partners said.
The transformation strengthens Canada’s shipbuilding capabilities while fostering international collaboration through the icebreaker collaboration effort (ICE Pact). (pb)
