Huelva welcomes a new service

Maersk has opened a new weekly service to the port of Huelva in southern Spain. The Huelva call will be included in the loop of W5C, within the rotation Algeciras – Leixoes – Huelva – Algeciras rotation.

The president of the Port Authority of Huelva, Pilar Miranda, regards this new regular container line as a diversification of the port of Huelva’s services and its traditional destinations (USA, Morocco, amongst others) and also as a contribution to the Huelva strawberry producers and exporters association (Freshuelva), which recently expressed its intention to open new markets such as Canada, China, India and Scandinavia. Likewise, exports from the neighbouring region of Extremadura could now also be transported by sea.

Moreover, the Huelva Port Authority and the port operator Yilport recently enlarged the container terminal yard located in the south pier of the Port of Huelva to a total of 50,000 sqm.

The new area is directly connected to the railway and part of the multimodal connection of the Atlantic Corridor. (cd)
