Hanson Spur to open in 2024
The US shortline carrier Sandersville Railroad has won Southern Chips as an additional user of its planned rail spur in Hancock County GA. Southern Chips will use the spur to transport pulp and paper-quality wood chips to mills throughout the southeastern USA and beyond.
The 7.2 km spur, Sandersville Railroad’s first expansion in Hancock County, will connect the CSX rail line. The railroad plans to have the Hanson Spur fully operational by the end of 2024.
The 130-year-old private shortline railroad operates 16 km of mainline track and 8 km of branch lines, as well as five locomotives and more than 400 railcars. (ben)
