Germany’s rail industry is growing - abroad
Deutsche Bahn generated record sales of EUR 7.8 billion in Germany in H1/2023, an increase of 15%. However, growth is taking place abroad, with exports accounting for around 40% of sales. The domestic market shrank by 8% to just under EUR 5 billion.
Incoming orders in Germany and abroad rose to EUR 12.2 billion - 36% above the previous year's figure. According to the German Railway Industry Association (VDB), the sector is feeling a tailwind from the investments the federal government is planning for the rail sector, among other things.
However, for the funds to flow quickly into rail projects, financing mechanisms and price guidance must now be optimised and digitalisation driven forward, the VDB said. (ben)
