Germany's Leipzig/Halle airport still on the rise

In the Champions League, Europe's prestigious football tournament, Leipzig may have lost out to Paris, which hosts one of the continent's two biggest air freight airports, but Europe’s fifth-largest cargo hub is continuing to register above-average growth, in contrast to the general negative trend for air freight volumes: Compared to the same month in 2019, the amount of air freight handled in July rose by 17.6% to 122,727 t.

In the first seven months, volumes (765,583 t) increased by 6%. With more than 1,000 take-offs and landings involving freight traffic every week, the airport is proving to be a bedrock for reliable logistics and supply chains for the general population and industry during the corona crisis. It has also handled dozens of aid flights that have transported medical equipment to Germany and Europe. (ah)
