German railways call for measures to combat climate change
With EUR 5.2 billion, Germany’s railway industry generated a high turnover in H1/2019, which is however 3.7% below the result achieved in H1/2018, the German railway industry association (VDB) said.
It added that its members were feeling the effects of international competition and striving to hold their ground on an unequal playing field in the global market.
In order to improve the position and competitiveness of the railway industry and achieve the climate targets in the transport sector, the association called upon the German federal government to invest in innovations and locations and to ensure a quick and nationwide digitisation. (ben)
