G+D launches smart tracking tool
Any package can be transformed into an internet of things (iot) device, now that Giesecke+Devrient has launched its new ‘G+D Smart’ label, allowing for enhanced tracking and sensor data exchange.
The product is for customers in the delivery, shipping, fleet management and luxury goods businesses, all of which can profit from the label’s smart motion sensors and GPS accuracy with sub-10 m precision.
It also includes an open-close sensor for tamper protection and automated proof of delivery, and supports perishable goods transport with a temperature monitor.
The label is a little larger than a credit card but thin, lightweight and reusable, made for easy use in air and other transport.
Early users of the tool include Track & Pay, which has implemented the ‘G+D Smart’ label to enable automatic payment upon a shipment’s arrival. (mk)
