Funding for Ukraine port cooperation
Ports of Stockholm and the Baltic Ports Organisation (BPO), along with the Odessa (Ukraine)-based law firm Interlegal, are seeking funds from the Swedish Institute’s Ukraine cooperation programme to support the integration of Ukrainian ports into the EU transport network.
This preparatory project aims to build cooperation between Sweden and Ukraine, focusing on a needs analysis, applications for EU funds, and study visits to Baltic Sea ports to enhance Ukrainian ports' efficiency and conditions for future trade. Jens Holm, chair of the board of Ports of Stockholm, highlighted the importance of leveraging the partners’ expertise in port management, logistics, and sustainability to support the modernisation and compliance of Ukrainian ports with EU standards.
Ukrainian ports, which handled about 160 million t of cargo before the war, have suffered significant damage due to the conflict. Rebuilding and integrating these ports into the EU transport network will be essential post-war. The project is part of Sweden's broader cooperation with Ukraine, aiming to support economic development, trade, and democracy. If funded, the project will run from November 2024 to October 2025, with a total grant of EUR 17,300. (pb)
