French Hy Shunt project launched
French hydrogen specialist HDF Energy and the SNCF affiliate Captrain France have signed a partnership agreement for the development of hydrogen locomotives.
As a first step, the partners are launching the Hy Shunt project: a diesel locomotive with a power of about 700 kW will be retrofitted with a decarbonised electric propulsion system driven by green or low-carbon hydrogen, via a high-powered fuel cell system manufactured and integrated by HDF Energy.
This project will also enable HDF Energy to pursue the development of high-performance fuel cell systems for rail transport. (ben)
