Forward to the biggest hydrogen-powered fleet
Canadian Pacific (CP) is receiving a USD 15 million grant from the non-profit-organisation Emissions Reduction Alberta (ERA), which will dramatically expand the scope of its pioneering hydrogen locomotive programme.
CP will increase the planned number of hydrogen locomotive conversions in the project from one to three with an additional line-haul locomotive and a yard switcher locomotive. Collectively, they will represent the biggest fleet of hydrogen-powered locomotives in use in North America, CP said.
To support hydrogen locomotive operations, the project will include also installation of hydrogen production and fuelling facilities at CP railyards in Calgary and Edmonton. (ben)
