Ford and Schenker open Dubai South hub
DB Schenker and Ford have opened a parts distribution centre in Dubai South, adding 42,000 m2 of logistics capacity in the region. Inaugurated on 9 January by senior executives of both companies, the facility aims to boost storage capacity and picking for parts. It is fitted with advanced equipment for material handling and racking, including very narrow aisle systems, multi-tier mezzanines, deep selective and cantilever racking.
This, in addition to 20 container docks, will help DB Schenker and Ford operate simultaneous activities and accelerate delivery times. A 400 kW solar panel system is also set to be installed this year, to cut energy consumption and carbon footprints.
The hub’s location in Dubai South allows for uninterrupted access to Jebel Ali Port and connects to major trade routes to the Middle East, Africa and Asia. (mk)
