Flying the champs back home
A group of very special champions have made their way home from the Japanese capital on special flights operated by Emirates. Emirates Skycargo, the freight division of the Dubai-based carrier, operated 16 charter flights to fly 247 horses from Liege to Tokyo-HND and back.
The airline worked with Peden Bloodstock, an international horse transportation specialist for this charter. During the flights, the horses were settled inside 131 specially designed horse stalls. 59 grooms accompanied the horses on the flights to ensure that they were well cared for, fed and watered during the journey between Belgium and Japan via a brief stopover in Dubai, with 20 t of inflight food and drink for the horses on board along with 100 t of special equipment for the onward journey.
