Flying horses from Shannon to Shanghai
In partnership with Etihad Cargo, the logistics arm of UAE's national carrier Etihad Airways, livestock transportation air charter specialist Intradco Global recently transported 75 thoroughbred horses from Shannon, Ireland, to Shanghai PVG, China, onboard a B777-200F.
It was critical for Intradco Global to provide an aircraft, stalls and flying grooms for this charter, and this meant finding a carrier who could work with them to circumvent the obstacles presented by the pandemic and ongoing Covid-19 restrictions for both humans and animals entering China.
The charter for the client BBA Ireland took advantage of Etihad Cargo’s "sky stables". The horses travelled in 25 specialist air stalls, and British and Chinese grooms were also onboard, with an on-call vet available 24/7 throughout the operation. (ah)
