Flying equine stars from Europe to Hong Kong

Cathay Cargo has transported 70 world-class horses to Hong Kong for the Longines Hong Kong International Horse Show (HKIHS), taking place from 14-16 February in the AsiaWorldExpo centre there. This marks the return of elite show jumping to the city after more than five years.

A charter flight from Liège (Belgium) carried most of the horses on a Cathay Cargo Boeing B747 freighter, accompanied by four grooms for the animals’ comfort. Other horses, including Shetland ponies for the Shetland Pony Grand National, arrived from London Heathrow.

Cathay Cargo is an official airline partner of the HKIHS, sponsoring a showjumping event and featuring on competition obstacles. Visitors can also get to know Cathay’s live animal shipments at a stand at the event.

Cathay Cargo director Tom Owen said that “we’re proud to support this event, ensuring that horses arrive in a good state for the showjumping meeting.” (ah)
