Flying aid to Mozambique

Over the past weeks, air cargo industry players have rallied to help Zimbabwe, Malawi and Mozambique following cyclone Idai. Cooperation between the UPS foundation and leading humanitarian relief organisations is bringing urgent relief by land, sea and air.

Network Airline Management, on request from Scan Global (Denmark), flew 52 t on its scheduled flight from Liege to Nairobi and transferred the cargo to its partner, Kenya’s all cargo airline Astral Aviation, which operated three back-to-back B727F charters to the Mozambican sea port Beira over a three-day period.

Air Charter Service has chartered a variety of aircraft, ranging from AN-12 and IL-76 to B747-400 and B777, to fly a total of almost 500 t of humanitarian aid, as well as almost 100 doctors, into the disaster-struck country so far. (ah)
