First trucks with eco-friendly materials
Volvo is the world’s first truck manufacturer to introduce fossil-free steel in its trucks. It will initially be used in the truck's frame rails and will be manufactured by SSAB.
The Swedish steel company will produce the steel using a completely new technology based on hydrogen. The result is a much lower climate impact than conventionally produced steel. On a small scale, the steel will be used in Volvo's heavy electric trucks from Q3/2022.
The truck manufacturer has also opted for recycled material. For one of its new models, already 30% of the components are manufactured with recycled materials. Up to 90% of the truck can be recycled at the end of its life. (ben)
