First trans-Atlantic service by Gemini Cooperation
On 3 February DP World Southampton welcomed the ‘MV Leonidio’, the first vessel under the Gemini Cooperation’s trans-Atlantic AL1/AT3 service, at the Southampton logistics hub. The ship will call at key European ports, before heading for the USA.
Gemini, a cooperation effort launched by Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd, aims to improve global supply chain efficiency by implementing a “hub and spoke network” and reducing port calls.
DP World handles all of Gemini's Middle East–Europe and Asia–Europe services in Southampton and London Gateway. The cooperation is a testament to DP’s programme of investment to make the ports of London and Southampton “the most modern and advanced logistics hubs in Europe,” says Ernst Schulze, CEO of DP World UK.
The first Gemini Asia–Europe service will arrive at London Gateway in the coming weeks. (js)
