First carbon-neutral shipment

Contecon Guayaquil (CGSA), the concessionaire of the public port in Guayaquil (Ecuador), recently handled the world’s first certified carbon-neutral container shipment. The logistics process involved supply chain firms, from exporter to port and distributor, that go easier on the environment.

The shipping of Ecuadorian bananas was achieved with the cooperation of Tropical Fruit Export, wholesaler Société International d’Importation (SIIM), and the ICTSI entity CGSA, which are all certified carbon-neutral firms.

CGSA, the first port operator in the Americas to obtain ISO 14064 carbon-neutral certification, loaded the box onto the Antwerp-bound “MSC Geneva” in Guayaquil. (cd)
