Finnair flies freight around Russian airspace

In April 2022, Covid-19 was still having an impact on Finnair's passenger figures, particularly to/from Asia. The Russian airspace was closed at the end of February, resulting in reduced routes and frequencies in Far East traffic.

Thanks to robust demand for cargo (+25.8% year-on-year, +2.4% month-on-month), the carrier continued operating to most of its Asian destinations despite the longer routings. Cargo figures improved yoy clearly but remained close to March 2022 figures.

Available scheduled CTK increased by 299% yoy (+1.9% mom) and revenue scheduled CTK by 192.8% (+2.1% mom), both improvements compensating for the losses caused by the pandemic on scheduled flights, especially in North Atlantic and Asian traffic, in April 2021. These figures include the cargo-only flights which most were replaced last month by PAX flights carrying cargo. (ah)
