Europe–Apac traffic surpasses 2019 levels

Eurocontrol’s latest ‘Aviation Trends’ has analysed air traffic between the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) region and the Asia-Pacific region (Apac) since 2019, highlighting the impact of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

In 2024, traffic grew by 21% year-on-year, surpassing 2019 levels by 8%, reflecting a strong recovery in both passenger and cargo operations.

Cargo flights accounted for 16% of total Europe–Apac traffic. Unlike passenger flights, the cargo sector remained resilient during the pandemic, due to strong demand for goods and medical supplies.

While the war in Ukraine caused a slowdown in 2022, the sector rebounded in early 2023 and has consistently remained above 2019 levels. The ongoing growth in air cargo highlights its crucial role in global trade and supply chains, with demand expected to remain strong. (ah)
