ETCS refit for Thailand’s railways
SRT, Thailand's state-owned railways, is investing in ETCS' level 1 onboard automatic train protections (ATP) system. Progress Rail's subsidiary ETM will design, supply and install its system on 70 SRT locomotives. The ATP system increases efficiency, safety and reliability, ETM said.
Initially developed to boost interoperability across European rail networks, the system is increasingly being adopted by worldwide rail operators.
The ETCS Level 1 ATP onboard system’s primary function is to inform the operator about the maximum speed at each point of the line. If the train exceeds the speed limit, the system applies vehicle brakes as required. (ben)
