Estonian-made locomotive licenced in Finland
After nearly a year of test drives and administrative processes, Finland has granted permission for the first C30-MF locomotive constructed in Operail’s depot in Tapa, Estonia, to operate on Finland’s public railways.
Operail Finland has so far carried out shunting operations with Wabtec Power Haul freight locomotives. From now on, these operations will be performed in the Finish Kotka harbour with the C30-MF locomotive Jakob, which was manufactured in-house by Operail.
Operail Finland will initially operate one C30-MF unit. The modular locomotive is significantly more eco-friendly than previous locomotives. The six-axle C30-MF weighs 135 t, has an axle load of 22.5 t, and is powered with AC/DC electricity. (ben)
