El Al uses B787 and transforms B777
El Al Israel Airlines is stepping up the use of PAX widebody aircraft as freight-only aircraft. Its Dreamliner fleet consisting of three B787-8 and twelve B787-9 (photo) has a bellyhold cargo capacity of 20 to 50 t per flight.
In order to increase its cargo capacity, EL AL has even removed the passenger seats in some of its B777 to enable higher volumes of cargo to be transported, allowing the aircraft to carry around 50 t of cargo.
The airline stated that these measurements were calculated after it had removed the seats from two passenger B777-200. They are used by its freight division El Al Cargo to meet market demand on routes to New York, Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. (ah)
