E-Commerce - what's next?

Singapore-headquartered Asia Pacific and the EEMEA section of DHL Express have just published a new whitepaper with the boasting title of "The Ultimate B2B E-commerce Guide: Tradition is out. Digital is in." The study refers to the current trend to e-commerce and estimates a strong transformation of the markets in due course.

Their ambitious forecast is that by 2025, 80% of all B2B sales interactions between suppliers and professional buyers will take place in digital channels. In terms of money, this predicts an online B2B increase of more than 70% to USD 20.9 trillion by 2027 (2019: USD 12.2 trillion).

Besides the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the speed of digitalisation, the upcoming millennials generation is suggested as a reason for this development.

DHL Express did not forget to report that the CEP company closed 2020 with total revenues of EUR 19.1 billion (+11.9% year-on-year) and an ebit of EUR 2.7 billion (+34.9%).

In total, B2C e-commerce volumes within the DHL Express network increased by approximately 40% in 2020, compared to 2019. (sh)
