DP World scores twice
DP World won both the coveted ‘business of the year’ and ‘driving railfreight growth’ awards at the 2024 Railfreight Group honours event. Recognition for the company’s expansion of railfreight services followed another good year in its end-to-end logistics business in the UK.
Highlights include the success of its flagship modal shift programme, which has increased the share of railfreight from 21% to more than 30% since its launch at the Southampton logistics hub in September 2023.
As a result, DP World recently introduced four new daily services at the Southampton rail terminal, taking the total number of weekly scheduled trains at Southampton to 172. Following high demand, the programme has been extended to run until December 2025.
DP World Southampton is now targeting towards a 40% railfreight share by 2026, alongside a goal to take an estimated 300,000 truck journeys off UK roads each year. (cj)
