Deutsche Bahn and its competitors increase market share
In 2018, the railways’ share in Germany’s freight transport market was 19.3%, the highest level for many years, according to data published by the country’s federal statistical office.
"The 136 billion tonne kilometres calculated now are significantly more plausible than previous estimates, commented the Netzwerk Europäischer Eisenbahnen (NEE, a German association of railway companies and associated businesses), which doubts the correctness of the data published so far.
The association added that, although some data remained uncertain, Deutsche Bahn’s competitors were clearly able to increase their share in the railfreight market to 52% in 2018, while DB’s freight services continued to lose ground and contributed only 47.2% to the overall transport performance.
