Dematic automates distribution hub for Ceratizit
Dematic is automating the new distribution hub operated by Ceratizit, a manufacturer of carbide products, in Kempten (Bavaria, Germany). To this end, the intralogistics specialist is setting up a Dematic multi-shuttle system comprising about 90,000 bin spaces that saves room by storing the products on shelves of various depths.
In the warehouse, 217 shuttles access the bins automatically and carry them directly to high-performance order picking stations. With this method, the system achieves a throughput rate of up to 570 bins per hour and work station, so that Ceratizit can assemble its orders more efficiently. 26 work stations for packaging and 24 stations for receiving and despatching the merchandise complete the facility.
The work stations are connected to the warehousing system with the help of conveyor lines measuring a total of 1.7 km. With the work stations, the warehouse complex covers a base area of about 3,000 sqm within Ceratizit’s new distribution hub. (mw)
