DB Schenker supplies Mercedes with saf
DB Schenker has delivered its largest-ever order for sustainable aviation fuel (saf) to Mercedes-Benz, supplying around 13,000 t for airfreight exports from Germany to China. This initiative will cut CO₂e emissions by 40,000 t on routes from Frankfurt to Beijing and Shanghai, as DB Schenker has reported.
“Decarbonisation is a long-term commitment, and this partnership sets a new benchmark for sustainability in global supply chains,” said Thorsten Meincke, board member for air and ocean freight at DB Schenker. Elke Pusskeiler, head of supply chain management at Mercedes-Benz, added that “integrating saf into our logistics is a crucial step towards achieving our ‘Ambition 2039’ goal of reducing CO₂ emissions by 60%.”
Saf, derived from waste materials like used cooking oil, offers an alternative to conventional aviation fuel, reducing greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80%, according to DB Schenker. (js)
