CSX to digitise its locomotives
The US class I railway has contracted the manufacturer Wabtec to equip 200 AC4400 locomotives with a suite of digital solutions, which will enable the rolling stock to deliver up to 8% fuel savings. The upgrades are expected to reduce 170 t of CO2 per locomotive per year. They will also extend the locomotives’ lives for several more years.
CSX will seek to increase reliability by up to 35% and tractive effort by up to 14%. Wabtec will do the modernisation work at its locomotive plants in the USA from 2024 - 2028. The contract is in addition to the 260 modernisations already ordered by CSX. (ben)
