Corona not to blame for decline in freight volume
In H1/2020, Operail generated an operating income of EUR 31.8 million, which is 16% less than in the same period 2019. Net profit was at EUR 1.8 million compared to EUR 5.5 million in 2019.
However, Operail’s wagon rental business showed a significant increase: income from wagon rental activities amounted to EUR 7.4 million, 22% more than in the previous year. Operail’s freight volume dropped by 21% to 5.5 million t.
This is not a result of the Corona crisis, which had no direct impact on freight volumes, the state-owned Estonian carrier said. In fact, freight transport was already in decline at the end of the previous year. (ben)
