Competition commission reviews planned takeover
Switzerland’s competition commission WEKO is currently examining the proposed takeover of SBB Cargo by the Swiss federal railways SBB and the companies Planzer and Camion-Transport. There are indications that this merger will create or strengthen a dominating position in various markets, the commission said.
The SBB runs a public transport network, while Planzer and Camion-Transport offer logistics services. With the merger, Planzer and Camion-Transport intend to contribute their logistics know-how to help optimise existing projects and develop new strategies for SBB Cargo. In this way, the partners plan to increase SBB Cargo’s profitability and competitive strength. (ben)
