CN invests in short line railroad
The Canadian National Railway (CN) is partnering with Genesee & Wyoming (G&W) and acquiring a stake of the Cape Breton & Central Nova Scotia Railway (CBNS). The investment strengthens its presence in eastern Canada, CN said.
CBNS interchanges with CN’s mainline at Truro, Nova Scotia. The short line operates a 235 km stretch. CBNS also owns tracks between Point Tupper to Sydney, but they have not been in service since 2015.
The line will continue to be operated by a G&W subsidiary, ensuring a seamless, safe, and efficient continuation of service. GWRR acquired the short line in 2012. Recently, the federal government announced a plan to invest into a container terminal at Melford near the tracks that CBNS operates. (ben)
